Luke 8:27
King James Version
27 And when he went forth to land,
there met him out of the city a certain man,
which had devils long time, and ware no clothes,
neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.
What happens when a man is tormented by a devil?
What does the evil spirit make him do?
How does JESUS heal them?
We found several stories, through Luke's gospel.
JESUS took pity on these people and healed them.
The vile spirits took hold of their minds, bodies, and spirits.
But they recognize JESUS, and are afraid of Him.
For they know what's going to happen next.
Here are some stories of people being healed from mental, and spiritual oppression:
Luke 8:26-39
King James Version
26 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes,
which is over against Galilee.
27 And when he went forth to land,
there met him out of the city a certain man,
which had devils long time, and ware no clothes,
neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.
28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out,
and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said,
What have I to do with thee, Jesus,
thou Son of God most high?
I beseech thee, torment me not.
29 (For he had commanded the unclean spirit
to come out of the man.
For oftentimes it had caught him:
and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters;
and he brake the bands,
and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)
30 And Jesus asked him, saying,
What is thy name?
And he said, Legion:
because many devils were entered into him.
31 And they besought him that he would not
command them to go out into the deep.
32 And there was there an herd of many swine
feeding on the mountain:
and they besought him that he would suffer them
to enter into them. And he suffered them.
33 Then went the devils out of the man,
and entered into the swine:
and the herd ran violently down a steep place
into the lake, and were choked.
34 When they that fed them saw what was done,
they fled, and went and told it in the city
and in the country.
35 Then they went out to see what was done;
and came to Jesus, and found the man,
out of whom the devils were departed,
sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed,
and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
36 They also which saw it told them by what means
he that was possessed of the devils was healed.
37 Then the whole multitude
of the country of the Gadarenes round about
besought him to depart from them;
for they were taken with great fear:
and he went up into the ship,
and returned back again.
38 Now the man out of whom the devils were departed
besought him that he might be with him:
but Jesus sent him away, saying,
39 Return to thine own house,
and shew how great things God hath done unto thee.
And he went his way, and published
throughout the whole city
how great things Jesus had done unto him.
Apostle Luke, being a physician, had other stories to tell of people possessed by devils.
And how JESUS healed them.
As in the case of Mary Magdalene.
Luke 8:1-2
King James Version
8 And it came to pass afterward,
that he went throughout every city and village,
preaching and shewing the glad tidings
of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him,
2 And certain women,
which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities,
Mary called Magdalene,
out of whom went seven devils,
And another woman had a "spirit of infirmity":
Luke 13:11-13
King James Version
11 And, behold,
there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity
eighteen years, and was bowed together,
and could in no wise lift up herself.
12 And when Jesus saw her,
he called her to him, and said unto her,
Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
13 And he laid his hands on her:
and immediately she was made straight,
and glorified God.
Mark, the evangelist, also wrote in his gospel of JESUS CHRIST:
Mark 9:20-27
King James Version
20 And they brought him unto him:
and when he saw him,
straightway the spirit tare him;
and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
21 And he asked his father,
How long is it ago since this came unto him?
And he said, Of a child.
22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire,
and into the waters, to destroy him:
but if thou canst do any thing,
have compassion on us, and help us.
23 Jesus said unto him,
If thou canst believe, all things are possible
to him that believeth.
24 And straightway
the father of the child cried out,
and said with tears,
Lord, I believe;
help thou mine unbelief.
25 When Jesus saw
that the people came running together,
he rebuked the foul spirit,
saying unto him,
Thou dumb and deaf spirit,
I charge thee, come out of him,
and enter no more into him.
26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore,
and came out of him: and he was as one dead;
insomuch that many said, He is dead.
27 But Jesus took him by the hand,
and lifted him up;
and he arose.
We see how devils torment man.
How they try to destroy their minds, souls, and bodies.
How they shatter their spirits.
And how devils recognize the LORD, as "Son of God".
But JESUS drives out these devils for good.
